Welcome to our New Home

“We’re delighted to share with you the first sight of our new Production facility and are really looking forward to having our team and all of our facilities together under one roof.
This new space is over three times the size of our existing plant and will allow for even greater efficiencies in the delivery of our services. Logistically it will offer a vast improvement in the movement of goods around the plant, allowing incoming product, stock holding, finishing solution and distribution to be a seamless production flow with plenty of room for growth.

It will allow us to plan future expansion with the confidence that space for new manufacturing processes will not be a problem. We’re looking forward to installing our state-of-the-art equipment and welcoming our team into this fantastic new working environment.”

Breast cancer now – pink day at fc cartons

All of the staff wore pink uniform, some added pink socks and even a pink wig was seen in the office!

David decided to support this charity this year, in the past we’ve hosted Macmillan Coffee mornings which have been a great success, but he thought the pink theme would work well involving all of the team – he went off and sourced pink work-wear for everyone.

On the day, all of the team wore pink tops, we enjoyed lovely freshly stone-baked pizza’s delivered to the door by the Castle Inn Castle Donington – we asked the team to make a donation to the charity for their lunch and held a pink themed prize draw.

Over the day we raised over £500.00 for the charity.

David even carried on the theme with the Derby Trailblazers – their Division One team played Kent Crusaders in a league match – the players warmed up in pink.

The supporters all embraced the charity idea and they held a pink themed raffle.

The club raised £200.00 to donate to the charity as well.

BRC ‘AA’ grade retained and 100% compliant

FC Cartons once again celebrates its British Retail Consortium (BRC) – Packaging & Packaging Materials ‘AA’ grade certification.

We are pleased to announce that we have continued our British Retail Consortium (BRC) – Packaging & Packaging Materials standard at the prestigious ‘AA’ grade level. Director of fc cartons Debra Woodyatt commented:

“We have said many times before that we are always looking for continual improvement across all aspects of our business – from process requirements, to warehousing space and now we’ve achieved another BRC Audit with ‘AA’ and 100% compliant.

We’re so pleased with the outcome of our Audit, obviously with an ‘AA’ grade last year the pressure was on to retain it, I was thrilled with our 100%, it just reinforces the team work ethics that we all have and every one of our staff understands the importance of the external accreditation to our business. It’s an exciting time at fc and with this Audit under our belts we will now look forward to seeing our expansion plans coming together this autumn”.

Just one part of this continual improvement is the Quality Management System which provides guidance and a framework for moving forward under the BRC banner. fc cartons first applied for BRC – Packaging & Packaging Materials standard and attained it 5 years ago. Over this past 5 years, fc cartons have improved their grading to achieve the ‘AA’ grade through great teamwork, clear communication and a desire to offer the very best in customer service.

Debra Woodyatt continued:

“Following the auditors comments, which included references ‘Nice friendly people’ and ‘a good facility’ we would like to take this opportunity to thank the fc cartons team and our customers for supporting us through another successful year.”

Some of the very positive feedback we received on our certification:

“Congratulations FC! Well done to the team”
“Cracking effort Debra, well done!”
“Congratulations, wow 100%!”
“Fantastic, well done everyone”
“Well done Debra, great news!”

Q & A with Team FC – Pick and Place

Q: Why has the introduction of Pick and Place been so successful for Team FC?

We have been able to further develop the capability of Pick and Place – when we introduce a new service it is not just what the equipment can do that excites our R and D team – it’s what it can’t do; but with our wealth of knowledge and expertise we understand how that capability can be extended and increase the flexibility of our finishing solutions. This innovation has helped us open new doors in new market sectors; we can now Pick and Place different materials – not just APET windows. We have developed some new and different profiles which have had a significant effect on our business and have been extremely well received by both current and new customers alike.

New system at FC

CRM – Communication is Key!

First of all, a huge thank you to all of our customers who completed and returned our customer satisfaction survey.

As part of our commitment to quality and customer service we have looked in detail at all of the comments and feedback given, in order to address any areas where we can improve. We truly value the information that you have provided and it really will help us to deliver an efficient, appropriate and cost effective service to your business.  Communication is an area that we identified for development as a result of listening to you. We have recently implemented a comprehensive CRM (Customer Relationship Management) system which enables us to record and respond to our customers’ needs with greater efficiency. This integrates fully with our existing system and enables us to capture all customer related information, quotes and documents in one place.

Our new CRM system went live in April and we are currently training the team and optimising how we use this powerful software to its full capacity. Our next phase of development in this key area will be for Production Data collection, then expand the system to cover all of the team here at fc.

Back by popular demand Fish ‘n’ Chip lunch at FC

Due to the resounding success of our previous traditional Fish ‘n’ Chips Friday we decided a follow up treat would be a welcome end to another busy week for Team fc.

Daniel from ‘Mobile Fish & Chips’ arrived in our car park at 11.00am sharp, got his fryer fired up and promptly started serving up piping hot fish ‘n’ chips at 11.45am!

Again the lunchtime treat was very well received and we got some great comments from the team:

“these were better than last time”

“the best fish ‘n’ chips I have had in ages”

and of course we had a repeat of;

“can we do it every Friday”

It is nice to see the cardboard trays being used especially with the news they keep food fresher for longer than their polystyrene competitors (not that the Fish ‘n’ Chips lasted long enough not to be 100% Fresh!) However they are a more sustainable form of packaging as they are recyclable and biodegradable.

Focusing on food waste

Here at fc we take the avoidance of all forms of waste very seriously. We are committed to our Green credentials, maximise our recycling, maintain our Carbon Neutral status and continue with our tree planting programme. We hope you’ll find these staggering facts in our ‘Focusing on food waste’ Infographic below as interesting and yet disturbing as we do?

RYAN TRIMMER – Trainee Die-Cutting Operator. (Former Apprentice)

Ryan Trimmer became fc cartons first apprentice back in July 2016 in a new and exciting role of Apprentice die cutter.

Ryan joined us after completing a 12 month engineering course at nearby Derby College and being the standout candidate at the interview stage here at fc.

This was a new venture for both parties and was something that we had been looking to introduce for some time. Ryan bought into our guiding principles and core values from day one and continues to do so on a daily basis. I am a great believer, that in life what you put in you get out and Ryan has been a credit to himself and his family throughout his apprenticeship here at fc and has become a hardworking and respected young man who is well liked by the rest of the team.

Ryan’s Development has been greatly assisted by Machine Operator Steve Furniss. With over 20 years’ experience in the packaging industry, Steve has been instrumental in his progress and has enthusiastically imparted his knowledge and allowed Ryan to develop the skills required to continue the next generation of Die cut operators.

Ryan will gain an NVQ Level 2 in Performing Manufacturing Operations. He has studied in the workplace and been observed by his external mentor.

We hope to share Ryan’s success story with local schools, colleges and even local sporting teams in the area to showcase the opportunities here to join the fc Team to further develop their own potential and provide a path to a skilled trade which will safe guard theirs and possibly our future. We hope that Ryan’s story will illustrate to other young people that work place study through the Apprenticeship scheme is a real opportunity
